Through these explorations, we identified a range of potential benefits from using their functions in training. Here we focus on how these were used, tested, and appropriated by children and instructors during a six-week circus training course.
#YOGA AND WEIGHT LIFING SERIES#
In the context of designing for children with Sensory-based Motor Disorder, we designed and deployed a series of Training Technology Probes to be used in circus training. Physical training can be frustrating and hard, especially for those who experience additional challenges to access and control their proprioceptive senses. We discuss design features and methodological aspects that allowed this and what open-ended feedback offered in comparison to current technology approaches to support training towards a correct exercise execution. Our findings show that BodyLights catered to a wide range of trainees and exercises, and supported understanding, executing and correcting diverse technique parameters. To study them, 15 trainees at different skill levels trained three times with our personal trainer and BodyLights. With a personal trainer we designed the augmentation of 18 strength training exercises with BodyLights: 3D printed wearable projecting lights that augment body movement and orientation. We explore an alternative design approach, in which technology provides open-ended feedback for trainers and trainees to use during training. This falls short on catering to diverse trainees and exercises. Technologies targeting a correct execution of physical training exercises typically use predetermined models for what they consider correct, automatizing instruction and feedback. We conclude by analysing the potential factors that influence emotions and outline the design space of e-textiles for emotion regulation in real-life use. Results show that using the smart t-shirt positively impacts the healthcare workers’ immediate emotion regulation when they experienced emotion fluctuation and provided a more positive attitude towards their work. We evaluated our smart t-shirt prototype for emotion regulations at work for healthcare workers through an in-situ user study conducted at three hospitals. Our prototype design supports using it anywhere, including work, home, and other places. We demonstrate our smart t-shirt’s utility by asking healthcare workers (including physicians and nurses) to use it for five consecutive days.

We have designed a smart t-shirt that encourages its wearers to perform body movements to enhance their positive emotions, stimulated by vibrotactile and audio feedback mechanisms.
#YOGA AND WEIGHT LIFING HOW TO#
In this research, we investigate how to utilise interactive textiles to help healthcare workers mitigate their negative feelings. Studies show that interactive smart textiles help people alleviate their emotions. Healthcare personnel suffer from an increased risk of stress, burnout, and depression due to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
